Grading Scales - The Pressure to Maintain a 2.0

As we continue to navigate through the opening of our school, we wanted to take a moment to address an important topic: grading scales. At Encourage Online Academy, we believe in providing a fair and accurate representation of our students' academic progress. With that in mind, we will use the grading system described below.

Introducing Our Grading Scale

Our educational philosophy is focused on providing a more comprehensive assessment of student performance. We have decided not to use the traditional A to F grading scale, but we will use a performance-based approach. Our grading scale consists of the following categories:

- Approaching Standards (AS)

- Meeting Standards (MS)

- Exceeding Standards (ES)

Why this Grading Scale?

We aim to focus on students' growth and progress on a performance-based grading scale rather than simply assigning a letter grade. This approach allows us to provide more specific feedback to students and their families, highlighting areas of improvement and where they excel.

What Does Each Category Mean?

- Approaching Standards (AS): This category indicates that a student is making progress towards meeting the expected standards for their grade level. It recognizes their efforts and encourages them to continue working towards mastery.

- Meeting Standards (MS): Students in this category have successfully met the expected standards for their grade level. They have demonstrated a solid understanding of the material and are performing at the expected level.

- Exceeding Standards (ES): This category celebrates students who have gone above and beyond the expected standards for their grade level. They have demonstrated exceptional mastery of the material and are performing at an advanced level.

This grading scale is part of our ongoing commitment to support student success. We believe that by providing more detailed feedback and focusing on growth, we can better meet the individual needs of our students and help them reach their full potential.
